The crash happened around 4:40 a.m. near Exit 33 in Needham when a pick-up truck lost control, went perpendicular to on-coming traffic, and was T-boned by a truck, state police said.

The driver of the truck that lost control died at the scene. The second driver was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The name of the deceased driver was not released as police worked to contact his next of kin.

Investigators noted that it was rainy and the road was wet when the truck lost control.

Police closed three lanes of the interstate near the crash site for hours as they cleaned, cleared, and investigated the crash.
